The Palo alto JCC has a great preschool, fun for the kids, and also a nice fitness center. The basketball court and fitness room are perfect for exercise, or even a small-sided game. There are two pools, the indoor one and the outdoor one. The indoor one is for 3-8 year olds, after that it gets boring, the outdoor one is heated and great for laps. It also offers some yoga and palates classes, as well as a babysitting service…. all they need is a small playground or grass field, then the place would be perfect!
I love the Oshman Family JCC! This place is so clean and full of competent employees. I've taken yoga, palates, dynamic strength & stretch, cycling, and core conditioning classes here and I've never been disappointed. The instructors are fun and friendly. I'm especially in love with the masseuse that hangs out near the front during weekdays ready to dish out amazing back/neck/head massages. I think they offer 10 and 15 minute massages for $1/minute + $5. I tried out a 10 minute massage and paid $15 plus $5 for a tip and it was a wonderful treat. The gentleman worked a lot of the kinks in my neck/back and had me feeling like I was walking on clouds after my yoga class.
A great place for a work out. There are thousands of members, it's true, but most don't use the facilities, and it isn't crowded at all. The equipment is top notch, the locker rooms are clean and everything is state of the art. Even the architecture of the facility is out of the ordinary.
You don't have to be Jewish and most aren't. This is, in fact, the most ecumenical Jewish center I've ever been at. Lots of Asian families have joined. At the old JCC, I'd hear a lot of Hebrew and Russian in the locker room from the patrons. In contrast, it's all English all the time here.
The basketball court is a nice addition and I'm getting to the point where I'm hitting my jump shot with enough accuracy that I won't embarrass myself if I play some 3 on 3. Put me in coach, I'm ready to play.
Parking is always readily available and there's a cute couple that runs a little cafe on site. There's Wi-Fi and a library as well. I haven't been to the cultural events, but they are ample and reasonably priced. This is probably the best workout facility in the area, and for the Jewish community, it's a wonderful gathering place and resource. I'm so proud I'm getting ferklempt!
Wow, this from a mom not looking to join anything, just looking for indoor swim classes. One afternoon at the pool which thrilled my kids sold me. I faxed in a membership application without doing any particular sales tour. I just walked around the many state of art & roomy exercise & equipment rooms, watched the happy child care customers (extra fee), and walked around the various locker rooms and said to myself - definitely worth the money for my family. You can drop in and try it out for a daily fee as well. Great place to make motivating yourself for indoor fitness super easy.
